Gerald Avery

Gerald Avery began dancing at the age of 14 in his home state of Wisconsin. He later went on to receive his professional training from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance.

Upon graduating, Gerald moved to New York City to pursue dance professionally. Within a year, he booked his first Broadway show, Spider-man Turn Off The Dark, working intimately with director, Julie Taymor, and U2 band members, Bono and The Edge.  Other Broadway shows soon followed, including working with Berry Gordy in Motown and Lin-Manuel Miranda in Hamilton. While performing in Hamilton, Gerald was able to work with the genius team that created the phenomenon, including Andy Blankenbuehler, Thomas Kail, and Alex Lacamoire. This lead to performing with the cast on the Grammy Awards in February 2016.

In addition to theatre, Gerald has also had the opportunity to work commercially. Some of his TV credits include The Detour (TBS), Orange is the New Black (Netflix), America’s Got Talent (NBC), Sesame Street, Good Morning America, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, The Tony Awards, and more. He has also danced for recording artists Jennifer Lopez (Mohegan Sun) and LL Cool J (Carnegie Hall).

Consistently looking to expand his knowledge in the performing arts, Gerald continues to teach and perform in both Los Angeles and New York.
